Community Engagement Coordinator
About the Job
Rise South City’s Community Engagement Coordinator will engage in policy and community work within South San Francisco, San Bruno, and other North San Mateo County areas. Rise South City engages community members, non-profit partners, and administrative stakeholders at various levels of government. The Community Engagement Coordinator will play a crucial role in developing and implementing outreach programs to foster community involvement in projects focusing on air quality monitoring, urban tree canopy expansion, creek restoration, and enhancing climate resilience. The Community Engagement Coordinator will also further develop public speaking and community organizing skills by preparing meeting materials for community members.
Primary Responsibilities for Air Quality Programming (65%):

Craft programming across community members and partner organizations

Complete timely check-ins with community leaders

Craft outreach plan for Promotores

Regularly meet with Rise South City Promotores

Work with Rise South City Staff to create volunteer events and opportunities that meet stewardship and outreach goals

Organize and lead volunteer events with the support of Rise South City Staff

Develop training programs for volunteer groups and Rise South City’s Promotores
-
Assist in the development and execution of Rise South City’s event schedule

Conduct outreach and lead meetings with community partners
-
Meet with government and community to achieve desired programmatic outcomes
-
Strategize aligning government programs and policy with community needs

Support Rise South City Program Coordinator in the administration of air quality programming.

Develop and distribute surveys to assess community needs and engagement efforts
-
Research, write, and organize community partners around grant opportunities
-
Steward relationships with local schools, community partners, businesses, and stakeholders.
Other Programmatic and Administrative Support (35%):
-
Support Rise South City’s communications team on social media and general outreach materials (including the development of flyers, newsletters, website content, email marketing, etc.)

Write reports related to grants and environmental justice issues

Manage administrative needs for grants

Facilitate and attend community meetings to better understand community needs
The selected candidate will possess the following Core qualifications:
-
Demonstrated understanding of working across lines of race, class, gender, and geography, and an analysis of how climate change and energy-related issues intersect with historic marginalization.

Two years of experience in outreach/event coordination and volunteer coordination

Experience coordinating citizen/community science opportunities
-
Proficiency with Microsoft, Canva, Adobe

Strong polished interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Creative, strategic, and analytical thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects.

Knowledge of air quality/environmental sciences.

Proficiency in Spanish (reading and writing)
The selected candidate will possess the following Preferred qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree

Familiarity with Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator) is a strong plus.

Multilingual skills (Spanish, Tagalog)
Salary and Benefits:
Rise South City offers competitive nonprofit compensation and is committed to justice in salary transparency and wage equity.
Salary: $65,000-75,000 depending on qualifications and experience
Benefits: Competitive package, including health, eye, dental, 401k, paid time off, holidays and sick leave

Location: Rise South City follows a hybrid work policy, requiring at least 3 days in the South San Francisco office per week for full-time staff.
